seguindo a nossa última conversa, eu achei melhor escrever-lhe uma carta antes da Páscoa, e desejar-lhe também uma Feliz Páscoa.
Como eu lhe disse, a reação e os comentários dos leitores são muito bem-vindo, ele ajuda muito a compreender melhor a maneira Carioca de pensar e de viver.
Eu normalmente não tenho nada a dizer sobre uma comunidade como “Britânicos são todos ….”, “Americanos são …” e assim por diante, mas, eventualmente, há sempre um problema comum sobre a mesma mentalidade dos moradores locais, do que nasceram no mesmo lugar, é como um juramento, um voto, que conecta um povo, a os faz orgulhosos de que eles são, sobre sua comunidade, sobre a sua cidade, sobre o seu país.
Eu quero enfatizar a você que a minha coluna de ponto G é sobre como eu vejo a vida aqui, do ponto de vista de um estrangeiro. Eu vim para cá por escolha, por isso estou ciente do que eu fiz. E eu já acompanhava o Rio e Brasil por muitos anos.
O Carioca gosta de reclamar, de criticar, contra quase tudo que existe.. E os ouço falar sobre si mesmo …. quando é necessário eles também vão na rua em manifestações pacífica, apenas para expressar suas opiniões.
Pessoas como eu, que optam por viver aqui (e pode ir a qualquer momento para outro lugar), que amam estar aqui com o “bom” e “ruim”, tem o direito a falar o que pensam sobre quase tudo, exceto talvez política.
Morar no Rio é como lidar com o seu colesterol em seu corpo… você está o tempo todo ocupado em equilibrar o “ruim” e “bom”.
Carioca, em minha percepção, não gostam de Gringos a crítica-los… este é um privilégio apenas para os moradores.
Então, é por isso que eu não estou surpreso com alguns comentários sobre a questão “falar Inglês”, a propósito, aqueles que “pularam” essa parte são em sua maiorias os que não falam Inglês, para aqueles que não acham necessário em faze-lo.
O fato é que nada tem a ver comigo, ou qualquer estrangeiro, a nova geração jovem e moderna, precisa falar Inglês (os franceses vão me desculpar, mas o Inglês é a língua mais importante do mundo), e a despeito de uma melhoria (lembro-me do Rio há 10 anos), ainda tem muitos lugares relacionados com o turismo, negócios e compras, locais que não falam outra língua a não ser português. Eu não consigo achar normal que no balcão da Gol no Santo Dumont a maioria pessoas não entendam Inglês, me desculpem.
As pessoas não gostarem de meus comentários, não vai mudar os fatos…
Outro comentário que eu tive foi no artigo das contas de energia elétrica, (desta vez de uma pessoa bem inteligente falando Inglês fluido) foi muito forte: esse cara simplesmente me disse para voltar para de onde eu vim, ou para mudar para a Suécia se eu não gosto de pagar minha conta de energia elétrica com consumo elevado …..
E ele explica: você pode estar certo, mas os Cariocas não gostam de comentários de estrangeiros, nós não precisamos de você para isso…
Então, eu vou continuar o retrato da vida aqui, vamos ver juntos reações futuras

Following our last conversation, i thought better to write you a letter before Easter, and to wish you as well a happy Easter.
As i told you, reaction and comments of readers are very welcome, it help a lot to understand better the Carioca way of thinking, way of living.
I normally don’t like to give a say about a community like ” British are all….” , ‘ Americans are…” and so on, but eventually there is always a common issue about same mentality of local residents, the one’s that were born in the same place, it is like a banding oath,vow , that link the people together, make them proud of what they are, about their community, about their city, about their country.
i want to emphasis to you that my G point column is about how i see the life here from the eye of a foreigner , i come here by choice, so i am aware of what i did, i follow Rio and Brasil many years.
Carioca people like to complain, to criticism, against almost everything that exist..I hear them talking about themselves….when it is needed they are also going on the street in peaceful demonstration , just to express their views.
people like me, that choose to live here ( and can go any moment to somewhere else) , who love to be here with the “good ” and “bad” , are entitle to say what they think almost about everything, maybe except politic .
Living in Rio is like handling your Cholesterol in your body……you are all the time busy to balance the “bad ” and the “good”…..
Carioca , to my perception, don’t like Gringo’s to criticism them….this is a privilege only for the locals.
So , this is why I am not surprise about some comments about the “speaking English” issue, by the way , the one who ” jumped ” the most are the one that don’t speak English, so they don’t find it necessary at all to do so.
The fact is that nothing to do with me , or any foreigner, young new modern generation, need to speak English ( the French will excuse me, but English is the most important language in the world) , and the facts are that in-spite of an improvement ( i remember here 10 years ago) , still in many places related to tourism, business and shopping, local don’t speak other language rather than Portuguese.I don’t find it normal that in Gol desk at Santo Dumond most of people don’t understand English, sorry.
The fact that people don’t like my comments, will not change the facts……
Another comment that i had was about the Electricity bills article , ( this time from a well intelligent guy speaking fluid English ) was very strong : this guy simply said to me to go back to where i come from, or to move to Sweden if i don’t like to pay my electricity high consumption bill…..
and he explain : you may be right, but Carioca don’t like comments from foreigners, we don’t need you for that….
So , I will continue to portrait the life in here , lets see together future reactions
